Turkish Studies

Turkish Studies at Georgetown University benefits from the availability of some of the best resources in the United States. It is a conglomeration of many components: expert faculty in a variety of academic disciplines whose research interests and teaching are Turkey focused; the availability of internal fellowships and external grants to facilitate language learning in modern Turkish as well as Ottoman; faculty and student exchange programs in Turkey; semester-long study abroad and teaching opportunities at Georgetown’s Alanya campus in Turkey; expert librarians and robust library holdings to support research; and an active events program throughout academic year, featuring numerous public talks given by invited expert guests.

In addition to boasting the highest enrollments in Turkish Language across all levels, students at Georgetown also have the opportunity to take courses in Turkish and Ottoman History, Culture, as well as Government, Politics and Foreign Policy of Turkey. In the near future, students will also be able to combine a variety of these course offerings to obtain the newly established minor in Turkish Studies.

Georgeown also benefits from the existance of Institute of Turkish Studies, a national grant-making dedicated to supporting the academic study of Turkey and the Ottoman Empire in the United States.
