Izabella Martinez is from Kodiak, Alaska, and graduated from William & Mary in 2024 with a BA in Linguistics and Global Studies, with a concentration in Russian & Post-Soviet Studies. At William & Mary, Izabella worked as a student researcher, collecting oral histories of Russians immigrating to Georgia after the invasion of Ukraine and Russia’s mobilization efforts. In 2023, she studied abroad in Georgia through the Critical Language Scholarship.
Currently, Izabella works full-time as a research assistant at the RAND Corporation. At RAND, she researches emerging technologies, nuclear deterrence and strategic escalation, and great power competition. In her free time, Izabella volunteers with Response Crisis Translation, providing free legal translation services from Russian to English and Russian to Spanish for migrants and refugees.
At Georgetown, her work focuses on renewable energy, energy security, and energy politics in Russia and Central Asia. Izabella is completing a certificate in Global Human Development.
