Beatrice Voorhees is originally from Kent, Connecticut. She graduated from Connecticut College in 2023 with a double major in History and Slavic Studies and a minor in Computer Science. Her undergraduate honors thesis, “Out of Odesa: Yefim Ladyzhensky and the ‘Odesa Text’ of Jewish-Soviet Culture” won the Claire Gaudiani ’66 Prize for Excellence in the Senior Integrative Thesis. She completed a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in the Czech Republic in 2023-2024, living for a year in the small town of Ledeč nad Sázavou and teaching English classes at the local high school. She then taught US and World History for two years at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, CT, as a History Teaching Fellow. She is interested in nation-building and national identity within the post-Soviet sphere, particularly in Central Asia, and is looking forward to exploring this interest during her time in the MAERES program. Beatrice currently works in the CERES office as the Multimedia Fellow, running the CERES social media platforms and managing the Center’s website.
