CERES is pleased to announce the Michael Calvey Fellowship, a gift from Michael Calvey to train the next generation of business leaders focused on Eurasia, Russia and Eastern Europe. As founder of Baring Vostok, Mr. Calvey spent decades investing in the region’s economies. The fellowship will help MAERES students build the same kind of commercial and cultural fluency. We are deeply grateful for his generosity and for his vision of what our graduates can achieve.

We are delighted to welcome Natalia Bertuol as the first Calvey Fellow. A Georgetown alumna with a Russian major, history minor and a CERES undergraduate certificate. Natalia spent her time after graduation as a Fulbright teaching assistant in Kazan, legal analyst in New York and Senior Lecturer in a private university in Kazan. In the MAERES program, she plans to pursue the International Business Diplomacy honors certificate and research Russia’s relations with the Global South and China, leveraging her native proficiency in Russian and Spanish. After graduation, she hopes to apply her analytical and cross-cultural skills in the private sector. Natalia shows what this fellowship aims to produce: a business leader who speaks the language and understands the region.
