Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition will be charged at the rate of $1392 per credit hour in academic year 2007-08. For more information, consult the financial information section of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences website.

CERES Academic Merit Awards
CERES awards a number of scholarships (tuition waivers) to both new and continuing students through funding from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. These awards are made on the basis of merit.
There is also at least one REES Fellowship (tuition waiver plus stipend) available each year. Fellowships normally carry an obligation to work for the program for up to 15 hours per week.
To be considered for these awards, prospective students need only check the relevant box on the Graduate School application and they will be considered for all merit-based funding. Continuing students must submit a request for funding and meet with program directors during the spring semester; they will be informed by email about this process. Decisions about departmentally-awarded scholarships and fellowships for continuing students are finalized and announced after the receipt of spring semester grades.

Academic Year FLAS Fellowships
Subject to renewal of funding and Congressional appropriation, CERES awards several academic year Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships for area studies. The US Department of Education has awarded CERES 5 FLAS fellowships (full tuition scholarship and stipend) for the 2007-2008 academic year. They may be used for the study of Russian, Turkish, Polish and Ukrainian.

Applicants to the program and current CERES students do not need to fill out the application form to be considered for FLAS awards. (Prospective CERES students who check the box indicating that they wish to be considered for academic merit scholarships on the last page of the Graduate School application will be considered for FLAS awards.) Current students in other programs at GU or those who are applying to other GU programs should click here for an application form for an academic year FLAS award. Students who are US citizens and are in good standing in any Georgetown graduate program are welcome to apply.

Summer FLAS Fellowships
Subject to renewal of funding and Congressional appropriation, CERES awards several Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) fellowships for intensive summer language study. The US Department of Education has awarded Georgetown University 4 summer FLAS fellowships annually for the 2006-2010 funding period. Summer FLAS awards contribute to tuition, provide a subsistence allowance and may be used toward study programs in the United States or abroad (with Department of Education permission) for any language of the region. For an application, click here.

Need-based Financial Aid
Other types of financial aid (loans, work study, etc.) are handled by the Office of Student Financial Services. Most of these forms of assistance require filing a FAFSA and other forms. (The FAFSA code for GU is 001445). To maximize the resources available to REES students, all applicants for funding are strongly encouraged to submit these forms. For information about loans and other non merit-based sources of assistance, please visit the website of the Georgetown University Office of Student Financial Services.
